Celebrating
International Women's Day
International Women's Day
International Women's Day takes place on 8 March 2024, celebrating the work and achievements of women across the world. This year's theme is "Inspire Inclusion", celebrating and exploring how diversity and empowerment aid us in achieving gender equality in every community.
Education has a vital role to play in promoting and achieving gender equality. Throughout Women's History Month, we are spotlighting a range of inspirational events, people and groups to explore and celebrate the work of women across the University of West London.
Hear from our staff
The University is delighted that 50% of our academic staff and 42% of those in senior roles are women, as well as 60% of our students.
To celebrate International Women's Day, we sat down with some of our staff to talk about what IWD means to them.

Highlighting the work of women in STEM
Our WInSTEM group aims to provide inspiration and motivation to women and young girls, encouraging them to pursue studies or careers in the Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) subject areas.
Chaired by Professor Anastasia Sofroniou and comprising 16 female academics from the School of Computing and Engineering, WInSTEM visits schools across London, spreading the word to female students about these exciting and dynamic areas.
The UWL Women's Network
The UWL Women's Network was launched in 2022 to provide a support network for women working in all sectors of UWL. The Network provides events and resources to enhance working lives and create a sense of community among UWL's female members of staff and a truly inclusive working environment.
The Women’s Network has provided a free reading list for International Women's Day 2024, featuring inspiring books, poetry, essays and more.
