Extended Masters and Enhanced Extended Masters options

These courses feature four specially designed modules which will improve your academic and English skills. Once completed you can progress directly onto the regular Masters course. See below for more information.

Course detail & modules
The International Business Management course provides you with an understanding and critical awareness of the complexity and interdependence that characterises the national and international institutional, political, and economic environment within which international businesses operate.
Furthermore, it will provide you with an understanding of key issues in leadership in a cross-cultural environment.
The content of the course focuses on international business decisions and the underlying forces driving the process of internationalisation.
You will learn how to:
- examine the keys to a successful global strategy and the drivers of globalisation
- assess how to develop global marketing considering aspects of digital business
- manage global operations and finance, by having an entrepreneurial attitude.
From essentials of business strategy and understanding the international business environment through to being creative professionals with reflective and critical skills, the course aims are designed to develop graduate capabilities by offering a range of learning opportunities.
Additionally, this IBM course will provide you with knowledge and skills of global business from a theoretical and practical perspective, preparing you for a career working in organisations that are engaged in business on a worldwide scale.
Extended Masters and Enhanced Extended Masters
Our Extended Masters and Enhanced Extended Masters courses are intended for students who already have an undergraduate degree but don't meet the entry requirements to study for a Masters degree.
Over a full-time semester, you will study four modules specially designed to improve your academic and English language skills:
- Advanced Study Skills
- Critical Thinking, Analysis and Evaluation
- Statistics
- English (Business English on the Enhanced course)
Once completed, you will progress directly onto the core Masters course.
What's the difference between an Extended Masters and an Enhanced Extended Masters? The Enhanced Extended Masters is similar to the Extended Masters but with a greater focus on improving your English skills. It also includes a Business English module which will allow you to gain a full understanding of this critical subject area.

Global Marketing in Digital Era
The module provides you with substantial knowledge of organisations that engage in marketing activities outside their home country and focuses its resources and competencies on global marketing opportunities.
Additionally, it broadens your awareness of the current global Marketing trends and issues including the identification of global digital marketing strategies and the external forces in the business environment, therefore, enabling you to acquire a level of expertise in developing marketing strategies across the globe.

Competitive Strategy & Innovation
On this Competitive Strategy and Innovation module, you’ll develop an in-depth understanding of the latest concepts in strategy and innovation, with a focus on business growth and innovation. You will learn the knowledge and skills to develop and manage new products, services and business models utilising innovation.

Data Science Insights for Decision Making
The Data science Insights for Decision Making module introduces the information process cycle and assists you in gaining a critical understanding of the concept of decision making.
The module will equip you with the tools necessary for the assessment of risk, the evaluation of competing strategies and the effective allocation of resources to improve decision making and gain a competitive advantage.

Geopolitical Economy of International Business
This module will give you an insight into the complexity and worldwide interdependence of the political and economic environment within which international businesses operate.
The module focuses on a critical analysis of contemporary perspectives of the global political economy, with specific reference to international trade, global finance, international organisations’ contribution to the geo-economic expansion of businesses, Global environment politics and Multinational corporations.

Global Sustainable Operations
This module provides you with the opportunity to appraise the complexity of sustainably managing operational activities for a global business.
This covers topics relating to operational strategy, the organisational structure, logistics and supply chain management, project management and quality management.

Leading and Managing Across Cultures
This module will provide you with the ability to develop a critical approach to the study of cross-cultural management and leadership and recognise the complexity of managing across different cultures and contexts.
You will also understand the challenges and opportunities faced by managers while working across or within cultures and the challenges and opportunities faced by leaders and managers whilst managing virtual teams across cultures.

International Business Management Project
The aim of this module is to enable you to develop your understanding of the problem-based research process through practical experience and to acquire the skills required to manage a complex research project aimed at business problem-solving in a global context.
Entry requirements
You should have an honours degree (2:2 or above) from a UK university or equivalent. We may also offer you a place based on relevant experience or training, normally from within the work environment. All applications are considered individually.

Extended Masters Degree
To study the Extended Masters programme you will need:
- a Bachelor's degree
- international students need to meet our English language requirements of IELTS 6.5 or above and a minimum of 5.5 for each of the individual components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening).
Enhanced Extended Masters Degree
To study the Enhanced Extended Masters programme you will need:
- a Bachelor's degree
- international students must meet our English language requirements at IELTS 6.0 or above, and a minimum of 5.5 for each of the individual components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening).
Please note: If you qualify for a regular Masters, you will not be accepted on the Extended Masters or Enhanced Extended Masters course.
You need to meet our English language requirement of 6.5 overall score for IELTS, with a minimum of 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening). Visit our English language requirements page for information on other English language tests we accept.
You also need academic qualifications at the same level as UK applicants. In some countries where teaching is in English, we may accept local qualifications. Check for local equivalents.

Funding your studies
If you are studying a Masters course you may be eligible to apply for a Postgraduate Loan, this may help contribute towards your course fees and living costs.
Additional funding is available to some types of students, such as disabled students or those with dependants.

Availability of placements - if you choose a course with placement/internship route we would like to advise you that if a placement/internship opportunity does not arise when you are expected to undertake the placement then the University will automatically transfer you to the non-internship route, this is to ensure you are still successful in being awarded a degree.
