Former LCM Honorary Professor, legendary music producer Robin Millar, receives knighthood
Intro
Congratulations to Sir Robin Millar, who was awarded a knighthood in the 2023 New Year’s Honours list and received his award last week at Windsor Castle. Previously an honorary Professor in Music at London College of Music (LCM), we are all very proud of Sir Robin here at the University of West London.
Main body
Currently Executive Group Chairman of Blue Raincoat Chrysalis Group, Sir Robin is most famous for his work as a record producer in the 1980s, working with artists including Sade, Fine Young Cannibals and Everything But The Girl.
During his time as an Honorary Professor for LCM, he enriched the lives of students by participating in talks and events, as LCM Professor of Music Simon Zagorski-Thomas recalls:
One of these [events] involved record producers choosing a famous track they had produced and deconstructing the process for the students, with Robin choosing to discuss his production on Sade’s ’Sweetest Taboo’.”
Sir Robin was born with degenerative eye condition retinitis pigmentosa, going blind in his 30s. However he did not let this stop him, and he has continued to work with recording artists including Laura Marling and Emili Sandé. He has also been instrumental in training dozens of recording engineers and producers.
Outside of work, Sir Robin, a vocal advocate for people with disabilities, is chair of disability equality charity Scope. His knighthood recognises his services to music, people with disabilities and charity.
We hope to welcome Sir Robin to LCM again very soon!
