Musical future on the cards for stage-loving student
Taking to the stage to build her confidence, a UWL Musical Theatre student is preparing for a very creative career in the arts – and all thanks to her university course giving her the confidence to explore all of her skills as a performer.
Lurdes Carrical discovered her passion for musical theatre after several years working for a professional stage company, and giving herself the confidence boost needed, she decided to put everything into her studies to build up her own career in the industry.
Now in her final year of a Musical Theatre BA (Hons) at UWL’s London College of Music (LCM) where she just appeared in a University production of Bad Girls the musical, she is already looking towards her final performance, and the next steps both on and off the stage.
I have known since I was 10 years old that I need music in my life, and I came to London from Portugal to study on this course with LCM,
I was working in the arts where I realised my passion for musical theatre. Everybody there encouraged me to come to university to study and it has been the best decision I could have made.
UWL has helped me so much, especially integrating in a new country and learning the language. Everything I have learnt has given me direction and helped with my confidence.
Before I started this course I was very shy and this has shown me different paths that I can chose in the industry and it has really helped me know what to do next. I cannot wait to finish my course and see where it takes me."
As well as helping her build her skills and confidence on stage, teaching and support at LCM have ensured that Lurdes knows all she needs to build a brand and promote herself as a performer and artist.
She is now preparing herself for work in all aspects of the industry by getting to grips with lighting, sound, and backstage work alongside acting and singing to ensure she can continue to grow her skills in all areas of the theatre industry once she graduates.
