Kenya, who graduated from the London Geller College of Tourism and Hospitality (LGCHT) with a BA (Hons) in Event Management in July 2023, was named Best Focused in Sports Events. She was nominated for the award by course leader Liz Quick.

She was very interested in sporting events. Her dissertation was all about gender equality and women in football, inspired by the FIFA Women's World Cup – looking at how things are changing,”

Liz explained.

During her time studying at UWL Kenya’s curiosity and commitment was clear, Liz adds, and her hard work and determination paid off – with her achieving a first class degree as well as winning this award.

Kenya is a real highflyer – she’s in her first job now as an event manager with a company called Chilli Sauce, that organises hen nights and stag dos. She came back to speak to students recently about her career so far – she’s put in a lot of effort, and it has really paid off,”

Liz said.

Commenting on her award, Kenya said:

I am delighted to be the first UWL student to win an AEME Student Award. Trust me, it wasn’t easy, and wouldn’t have been possible without my family and friends, supporting and pushing me to achieve and my supervisor Liz believing in me and always motivating me to reach my full potential.

Hopefully I can continue making a positive impact in the events industry and motivate any current event management students: you got this!”
