University of West London tops the rankings for Teaching Quality and Student Experience
Intro
The University of West London has been named “University of the Year for Teaching Quality” and “University of the Year for Student Experience” in the prestigious The Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023 and is described as ‘home to the nation’s most contented students’ in the Guide.
UWL is now ranked in the top ten universities in London and has risen to an impressive 40th place in the national rankings. This is the first time that both awards have been given to one university in the same year, and it is also the second time in the last three years that UWL has received the student experience accolade.

Commenting on this outstanding performance Professor Peter John CBE, Vice-Chancellor at UWL said:
Receiving these two awards is a tremendous achievement and one that perfectly captures our ethos as a university. We are delighted to see the skill and dedication of our teaching staff and their commitment to preparing our students for success in their future careers recognised in this way.
Of course, our students are at the heart of everything we do and that is why we have a relentless focus on delivering the best possible student experience so that they may thrive and achieve the success they deserve. After all, it is our students who will be helping the economy grow in the future and finding the solutions to our most pressing problems."
This latest recognition comes after UWL’s exceptional performance in the National Student Survey (NSS) 2022 which saw it ranked as Number 1 in the UK for student satisfaction*, student voice and academic support.**
Other recent successes also include being ranked in the top 100 universities in the UK for the overall quality of its research in the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF) which measures the quality of university research.
In recent years, UWL has been on an incredible upward trajectory, rising through a range of league tables and sector metrics establishing itself among some of the top universities in the country. This is a result of an unswerving commitment to offer the opportunity of transformational change to students through the delivery of high quality, career-focussed courses in a supportive learning environment. The university has also made significant investment in its facilities - creating modern teaching, sports, and social spaces to help all learners meet their potential.
