UWL celebrates innovative opportunities with GRAMMY partnership
Introduction
Music and arts students at the University of West London (UWL) can now access a wealth of unique creative opportunities and resources thanks to a new education partnership with the iconic GRAMMY Museum®.
UWL is now the second education institution in the UK to be named an official university affiliate of the Los Angeles-based, GRAMMY Museum, opening up new teaching and learning opportunities to inspire the next generation of music performers and producers.
As well as offering students across the University’s London College of Music (LCM) access to the Museum’s rich musical history and archives, the partnership will provide lecturers across UWL's extensive specialist content for teaching, research programs and project-based learning.
Coordinated by the University’s Policy and Practice Research Institute for Screen and Music (PRISM) research centre, the partnership will also open up opportunities for professional development seminars, internships and travel opportunities to students on arts, performance and music technology-based degree courses.
Emily Caston, Director of PRISM, said:
At UWL we pride ourselves on offering our students the very best opportunities in work-based learning, placement and internship opportunities. This exciting partnership with the iconic GRAMMY Museum will not only strengthen the learning and development for our arts students, but offer unique insight and connections as they begin their careers in all areas of music and music creation.
The resource-sharing partnership will help expand on teaching and learning opportunities across the University, and build on the GRAMMY Museum's education initiatives through a collaborative approach to arts education and outreach work.
The GRAMMY Museum explores and celebrates the enduring legacies of music, as well as the creative process, and the history of the premier recognition of excellence in recorded music -- the GRAMMY® Award. It features 30,000 square feet of interactive and multimedia exhibits and runs a series of thought-provoking and dynamic educational programmes.
The GRAMMY Museum is a non-profit organisation dedicated to cultivating a greater understanding of the history and significance of music through exhibits, education, grants, preservation initiatives, and public programming. Paying tribute to our collective musical heritage, the Museum explores and celebrates all aspects of the art form — from the technology of the recording process to the legends who've made lasting marks on our cultural identity.
