UWL received exclusive access to the Gtech Community Stadium and had the amazing opportunity to play on the hallowed turf as part of its partnership agreement with the Bees.
Two staff and student matches, each lasting 50 minutes, were played, with an eager crowd of supporting friends and family adding to the atmosphere. The respective squads were captained by Mohamed Mohamed and Connor Michael Leahy.
Using the away team dressing room, the students would demonstrate their fitness superiority and prowess in both matches with impressive 0-6 and 1-10 victories.
Brentford FC ensured players remained hydrated with drinks and half-time oranges supplied to both squads.
Connor, the UWL students’ club captain for the 2023-2024 season said,
It’s the first opportunity for us to play at a Premier League stadium. I just love it! Thank you, Brentford FC and UWL!”
Mohamed, who captained the staff squad, added,
It was an amazing privilege to captain the UWL staff squad at the home of Brentford FC and we all really enjoyed the experience.”
Ben Bushell, a course leader at London College of Music who was part of the staff UWL squad, said,
We were here to have a great time and this is a fabulous way to end the academic year.”
