UWL students and graduates connect with organisations at Creative Careers Fair
Intro
UWL’s Placement and Employment Services welcomed more than four hundred students and graduates to their annual UWL Creative Careers Fair on Thursday 14 March in Weston Hall. It was a dedicated event for London College of Music (LCM) and the London School of Film, Media, and Design (LSFMD) students.
Article body
Twenty-nine organisations from across the creative industries were at the fair, including MAMA Youth Project, which trains young people from under-represented backgrounds to succeed in the media industry, entertainment studio Warner Bros and Technicolor Games. The UWL Careers and Volunteering Teams were also in attendance to offer students advice and help.
Original music and visuals by music industry management and composition for film and TV students ensured there was an upbeat atmosphere at the fair. There was also a gallery of featured magazines and artwork by graphic design students.
We offer practical training to help young people with no experience get their first job in the media industry. They can be studying any subject; they just need to be passionate about media,”
explained Shanice from MAMA Youth Project.
We are looking for people who have a passion for the industry for our graduate internships in finance, business, marketing, sales and HR who want to learn on the job and develop their career. We have talked to lots of students who are interested in working in digital marketing, so we’ve been pointing them in the right direction to apply,”
explained Barakat from Warner Bros.
We are here to connect with visual effects students who are interested in working in Maya and Nuke in lighting and post-production,"
said Matt Rock from Technicolor Games, a global network of artists and creative technologists in the games and interactive industries.
Mia, a third year acting student, said,
I've talked to loads of organisations at the fair today including the Ealing Film Festival, which showcases new talent. I’m going to make the most of the conversations I’ve had and reach out to all of them about opportunities for after I graduate this summer.”
- UWL students can learn about thousands of job opportunities, including part-time, internship, placements and graduate roles on the Student Hub.
