Jonathan Loo a.k.a. Kok-Keong Loo, received his MSc degree in electronics (with distinction) and the PhD degree in electronics and communications from the University of Hertfordshire, UK, in 1998 and 2003, respectively.

Between 2003 and 2010, he was a Lecturer in multimedia communications with the School of Engineering and Design, Brunel University, UK. Between June 2010 and May 2017, he was an Associate Professor at the School of Science and Technology, Middlesex University, UK. From June 2017, he is a Professor at the School of Computing and Engineering, University of West London, UK.

Prof. Loo’s research areas involve interdisciplinary subject areas, namely Computer Science, Telecommunication, Electronics, and applied Mathematics, and largely contribute in the advancement of ICT systems and applications, briefly highlighted below:

Information Technology: Cloud Computing, Information Centric Networking, Network QoS and Security, Cloud-based mobile services;
Wireless Networks and Protocols: Software Defined Network, Internet of Things (IoT) / Machine-to-Machine (M2M), Wireless Sensor Network (WSN)/ 6LoWPAN/RPL, Vehicular Area Network (VANET), Mobile Adhoc Network (MANET), Opportunistic Network, Wireless proximity data mining;
Mobile Networks: Cloud Radio Access Network (RAN), Packet scheduling, Resource Allocation Management (LTE), Femtocell, Relay;
Future Internet: Location/ID split architecture and protocol;
Network security: securing communication networks (i.e. wireless and mobile networks) and critical infrastructure (i.e. information centric networking, smart grid, cloud-based mobile services etc.) including intrusion detection system, denial-of-service, secure network protocol, authentication, authorisation etc.
Computer Applications: multi-user video conferencing, perceptual video coding, video analytics, user behaviour analysis, wireless proximity data mining, cloud-based computing;
Applied Soft Computing and Computational Intelligence: Deep Learning framework, Genetic Algorithm, Evolutionary Strategy, Game Theory, Bayesian Inference, Particle Swam Optimisation, Ant-Colony Optimisation.
Electronic Engineering: directly printable RFID sensor tags for moisture and humidity sensing, RFID tag antenna for wearable healthcare etc.
Embedded Systems: Embedded Linux, System-on-Chip architecture (ARM, OMAP), DSP (Texas Instrument, Analog Devices), FPGA (Xilinx);
Digital communication systems: Channel coding, Modulation, Cognitive Radio, Massive MIMO;

He has successfully graduated 18 PhD students as their principal supervisor, and has co-authored more than 240 journal and conference papers in the aforementioned specialised areas.

Prof. Loo has been an Associate Editor for Wiley International Journal of Communication Systems since 2011. He was the Lead Editor of the book entitled Mobile Ad Hoc Networks: Current Status and Future Trends (CRC Press, November 2011).
