Faith and spirituality policy
1. Support for faith and spirituality
1.1 The University supports students in relation to faith and spirituality being through the provision of an Inter-Faith Adviser who is part of Student Services.
1.2 The adviser is responsible for providing support to those of all faiths and none, promoting good relations between those of different faiths and none and engaging with different faith groups in the community for the benefit of students.
1.3 The University also provides facilities for faith and spirituality related activities including worship and contemplation, both individually and collectively as set out below.
2. Contemplation rooms
2.1 The University has made available to students and staff a room exclusively for the use of individual prayer, quiet reflection and contemplation. This provision is available at SMR and Paragon in rooms BY.04.002, BY.B1.007 and PH301.
2.2 The rooms are to be used on a first come first served basis.
2.3 All users of a contemplation room must leave the room unadorned and ready for use by any other user. Lockers are be provided for any items an individual may wish to use in the room.
2.4 The use of the rooms will be overseen by the Faith and Spirituality Management Group.
3. Group activities
3.1 Student groups who wish to book a room for prayer activities linked to faith and spirituality must book these through the Students’ Union following their booking procedures. This includes bookings for communal worship.
3.2 Any external speakers at group events and the nature of their visit must be agreed through the SU’s external speaker policy.
3.3 The bookings and external speakers will be reported to the Faith and Spirituality Management Group.
4. Faith and Spirituality Management Group
4.1 All Faith and Spirituality activities are monitored by the Faith and Spirituality Management Group. The Group reports to the Student Liaison Committee
