MSc Improvement Project (self-driven module)

CPD Level 7
Location
Overview

Overview

This accredited course is the last stage of an MSc programme. It is similar to a research dissertation but focuses on improvement rather than traditional research.

It helps you to demonstrate the learning from your MSc programme in practice and write or present the information coherently.

Course requirements: You can take this course if you have completed the core modules on the MSc Improvement Science or the MSc Infection Prevention and Control. It is intended for Level 7 Masters students undertaking improvement research in the workplace.

Cost and funding: This fee covers the full course cost.

  • Sept 24 - Aug 25 fees: £2700
  • Sept 25 - Aug 26 fees: TBC

Credits: 60

Assessment method:

You will complete three assessments, all designed to help you deliver a great dissertation. First, you will complete an interim report (this is like a literature review showing the gap and the improvement that needs to be made). Then you will be asked to present your work in a 20-minute presentation. Finally, you will submit your thesis (final report) which should be up to 10,000 words.

You will discuss your deadlines with your supervisor and set them together at the beginning of the module:

  • Interim report – 20% (2-3,000 words)
  • Presentation – 20% (20 mins, plus Q&A)
  • Thesis – 60% (10,000 words).

Study dates and times

Study dates and times

This course is taught on day release, select a start date to see the study days:

Please note, there will be a period of online supervision between January 25th and April 25th.

Study days are from 9.00am to 5.00pm.

You will run an improvement project in your workplace, then present and write up your improvement research in the usual academic manner.

Throughout the course, you will have access to a variety of support modes depending on individual circumstances and needs. Your primary source of guidance and support will be your supervisor.

The project is an independent piece of work, but it is still part of your learning experience. You should find the support and guidance from your supervisor necessary to hone skills and bring together the learning you have had throughout the course with a focus on demonstrating and reflecting upon real-world improvement.
