KTP: Mammoth Graphics case study
About KTPs
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) are government-funded UK-wide programmes that help businesses improve their competitiveness, productivity and performance.
Through this relationship, a knowledge base (a university), embeds expertise in a company through an Associate (a skilled graduate), under the supervision of a Knowledge Transfer Adviser (an experienced academic).
The University of West London (UWL) offers bespoke solutions connecting our expertise to meet your needs.

KTP benefits
A KTP can help your company:
- gain privileged and cost-effective access to UWL resources
- increase revenue through access to new markets
- develop new products
- increase productivity
- improve processes.
The challenge
Mammoth specialise in the design and operation of television graphics for numerous broadcasters and production companies.
Their portfolio ranges from entertainment shows such as Big Brother, to full-scale sports broadcasts such as the Beijing Olympics.
However, the platforms for delivering integrated and complementary products are limited to broadcast and web media. Therefore, Mammoth wanted to create a new business line by developing a mobile technology offer to complement their web and television graphics output.
The solution
A KTP with UWL presented Mammoth with specialist skills. The collaboration created a unique engine, enabling non-technical staff to develop advanced mobile applications.
As well as funding, the KTP provided Mammoth with specialist academic expertise. Two academics from the University of West London's Model Driven Software Group acted as academic supervisors for the full-time two-year Associate, Nadim Alam, who graduated with a degree in Computer Science with Games Development.
Nadim developed a unique engine that generates mobile-based content for iPhones, Androids and Nokia.
He created a brand new Domain Specific Language (DSL) allowing creative staff, without previously necessary software development skills, to produce iPhone applications.

- The KTP acted as a catalyst for Mammoth's entry into new and prestigious markets
