APM Project Fundamentals Qualification

The APM Project Fundamentals Qualification is an introductory project management qualification certificate giving you an excellent understanding of project management and core fundamentals of how projects work in organisations.

Who is it for?

The Association for Project Management (APM) Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) is for anyone who:

  • has little or no knowledge of project management
  • is looking to develop their professional project management knowledge, experience and career
  • has a project management role and is looking to advance their project working practices.

There is no formal entry requirement for this course.

Modes of study

We understand that not everyone can take time out of their busy working schedules to attend these courses, so we offer three different modes of study:

Examination online - each mode of study requires a 1-hour online exam (60 multiple-choice questions). We recommend taking the exam within 14 working days of the course ending.

  • Exam: Self-registration - bookable directly with the Association for Project Management.

Classroom

Taught at our UWL campus, this course offers a comprehensive, classroom-based, learning experience:

  • Details: Two full days, scheduled between Monday to Friday 9am-5pm
  • Location: University of West London

Online taught

Delivered online by experienced lecturers from the industry, this is an ideal option if studying remotely works best for you.

  • Includes: all learning materials including our 5-star rated APM PFQ study guide
  • Dates and time: 2 days; full days will be 9am-5pm
  • Exam day: 1-hour multiple-choice examination
  • Location: online taught
  • Cost (includes exam): £695
  • Exam: Self-registration - bookable directly with the Association for Project Management.

Online self-directed (ongoing and valid for up to 3 months only)

This option allows you to study at your own pace and is perfect for those who cannot take time out of work but are able to study evenings and/or weekends.

How does it work?

Upon registration, you will be provided with a secure 3-month link to access the course. The 3-month limit is there to motivate you to build a disciplined learning momentum to complete the course in a reasonable period. If the limit expires, a further registration fee is payable.

As well as offering a comprehensive curriculum, at the end of each module are activities and tests that support and embed learning. You can go back and restudy the modules as many times as you wish. When you feel you are ready, simply contact us to register for the one-hour exam.

  • Dates and time: ONLINE SELF-DIRECTED. Course access is limited to 3 months from your chosen start date then a re-registration fee applies.
  • Location: ONLINE – via access link provided upon registration
  • Cost (inclusive of VAT): £395
  • APM Exam fee: Excluded
  • Re-registration fee: £149 for each 3 months
  • Exam: Self-registration - bookable directly with the Association for Project Management.

However you choose to study our PFQ course, you will cover the following topics:

  • key concepts of project, programme and portfolio management
  • project environment and project life cycle
  • project roles and responsibilities
  • project planning and scope
  • risk and quality management
  • scheduling and resource management
  • communication and leadership.

Pre-course

While there is no pre-course for this qualification, you may wish to read and get some understanding of the course syllabus prior to attendance.

    Please note our terms and conditions:

    Cancellations and refunds: Unless written cancellation is received at least 20 workings days before the start of the course, the full fees are non-refundable. Notification of all cancellations must be made to apmcourses@uwl.ac.uk.

    If a course booking is made less than 15 working days in advance of the start date of the course, the above cancellation terms will still apply with fees payable and non-refundable.

    The customer may substitute a delegate on a course upon notification of at least 20 days before the course start date at no additional charge. This is however subject to the new delegate complying with course requirements (including pre-requisites and pre-course reading) as detailed in the course outline.

    In the event of sickness backed by a General Practitioner signed note, one free rescheduling of the course will be allowed following which all terms and conditions associated with cancellation and rescheduling will apply.

    In the event of cancellation due to non-attendance fees are non-refundable.

    Preferential rates may be available for groups from the same organisation. All fees are inclusive of VAT.

    Please note that UWL fees do not include membership fees of the APM.

    Professional courses require viable delegate numbers in order to run. A decision will be made as to the viability as soon as practicable and you will be informed at the earliest possible time, usually two weeks prior to commencement. Should the decision be taken to not run the course you will be offered an alternative date.

    UWL does not guarantee pass rates. Success is dependent on ability, application of knowledge, participation and interaction of the participant.

    Discounts are available for corporate clients with two or more registrations. 

    You are also eligible for a discount when you book both the APM PFQ and APM PMQ together. Please note that the discount excludes combining the PFQ Online self-directed course with the PMQ.
