We have a range of employability services here at UWL including our careers, placements, employment and volunteering teams that can help you on your student journey.
As a university, we care about your studies and your future, which means that we do all we can to support you in getting the career you want. Throughout your course we can provide essential academic support, useful careers guidance and jobs advice when you feel that you need it.

Appointments and events
Booking appointments
You can book or come along to one of the following:
- Drop-ins: a quick and immediate face-to-face 15-minute support drop-in, providing information and general advice.
- Careers appointments: 30 minutes to 1 hour, one-to-one, online or face-to-face booked meetings with your school careers consultant for help with CVs, cover letters, applications and anything careers related.

Careers
The Careers team guides students and alumni toward successful careers. Services include personalised career guidance assistance with CV and cover letters, job search strategies, and interview preparation.
The university is not part of any combined careers services.

Chi Hung Liu - Careers Consultant (Law, Medicine and Biosciences, and Hospitality and Tourism)
Chi has been at UWL since 2019 and collaborates with the School of Law, School of Biomedical Sciences, and the London Geller College of Hospitality and Tourism. His main aim is to provide impartial advice and guidance to all UWL students about their careers.

Bernie has been at UWL since 2017 and her key purpose is to support students and graduates to achieve their career goals. Her main responsibilities include one-to-one guidance meetings and running careers education workshops in the curriculum.

Claire has been a part of the team since September 2022. The key purpose of her role is to support students as they navigate the initial stages of their career pathways. She most enjoys meeting people from a wide variety of backgrounds and hearing about the courses they are studying and their aspirations.

Steffan has been working at UWL since 2023. His primary responsibilities are career guidance, one-to-one appointments and delivering careers and employability advice sessions on different topics relevant to different year groups.

Kofo Rahaman - Information Officer
Kofo has been part of UWL for over 25 years. Her main purpose is providing up to date, relevant careers information for UWL students, graduates, work colleagues within and outside the service. She is also responsible for the social media presence and marketing.

Maria Patane - Careers Adviser
Maria is working as an apprentice in career development. She supports the students in creating an effective CV, and inspires informed career choices. She started as a UWL Talent Bank Trainee Career Advisor in December 2023 and is now a permanent staff member.

Donna Petgrave - Placement Officer
Donna joined UWL in 2018 and supports undergraduate and postgraduate students in their search for placements and internships, helping them apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings thereby enhancing their employability skills. In addition, she builds and maintains relationships with employers, connecting them with our diverse and talented student body. Donna also co-organises the annual Hospitality & Tourism Careers Fair.

Adam Safta - Placement Officer
Having worked at UWL since 2023, Adam’s main role is to help the School of Computing and Engineering and Politics students gain working knowledge within their field. He does this through employer engagement, promoting opportunities to students and providing support through the application process.
Adam will answer your questions on placement routes and opportunities, and you can expect reassurance and advice to help build your confidence during the application process. Adam is also involved in arranging employer careers fairs, site visits and employer talks to enable students to network with industry professionals.

Employment
The Employment team assists students in finding part-time jobs, internships, and full-time employment opportunities.
Our on-campus careers and employability fairs are run throughout the year and are designed to help you network with potential employers, all in one place. So far, these have included companies such as Sky UK, NHS, BAE Systems and Cancer Research UK who have all attended in search of the brightest, new talent.

Kane Ingham - Placement and Employment Services (PES) Administrator
Kane has worked at UWL since 2022 and more recently worked as an Employer Engagement Officer (maternity cover) solely managing UWL Talent Bank. He co-manages the UWL Talent Bank and helps students find part-time work during their studies and graduate roles after graduating. He enhances close UWL employer relationships via employer visits, networking sessions, employer job promotions and annual careers fairs held at St Mary’s Road campus.

Volunteering
