Infection Prevention and Control in Clinical Practice
Overview
This credit-bearing course introduces you, the practitioner, to the epidemiology of healthcare-associated infection, prevention strategies for different types of infection and healthcare environments and the evidence underpinning them; antimicrobial stewardship, surveillance and audit as tools for driving infection prevention.
The course also helps you to develop your ability to assess and manage infection risks in a variety of healthcare settings and use appropriate evidence to plan, implement and evaluate appropriate infection prevention and control programmes.
Course requirements: Evidence of study at Level 6 (Degree Level).
This CPD course is only available to those currently working as Infection Prevention and Control Practitioners. It is not a standalone module but forms the IPC pathway as part of a Post Grad Dip/MSc and must be taken as one of three specialist IPC modules, together with the module Healthcare associated infections: scientific principles (NS70116W) and Driving improvements in infection prevention and control (NS70115W).
Cost and funding: This fee covers the full course cost.

Study and career progression
This module is the second of three modules that form the first year of Pg/Cert/Diploma/MSc Infection Prevention and Control.
- The first module (Healthcare associated infections: scientific principles) runs between October and December.
- The third module (Driving Improvements in Infection Prevention & Control) runs between May and July.
