UWL Replay is the University's lecture recording service; it records the sound in the classroom and the presentation during a lecture.  It allows you to review lectures in your own time.

Students use UWL Replay in various different ways to aid their studies. It can help you with note-taking, understanding difficult concepts, developing your long-term memory of topics and studying on the go.

UWL Replay is accessible and supports screen readers and keyboard access. If you require this additional support contact the Wellbeing team to ensure this resource is provided.

How do other students use UWL Replay in their studies?

  • 1. To help with note-taking

Rosa finds note-taking difficult and sometimes misses what the lecturer says.  Her lecture notes are incomplete and she’s worried she missed something important.  She uses UWL Replay to complete her notes.

    1. Before lecture
Review your notes from the previous lecture and read through the lecture slides if they are available.

    2. During the lecture
Don't try and write down everything. Be selective about key points for note-taking.

    3. After lecture
Watch the lecture recording to review your notes and build on existing learning.

  • 2. To help understand difficult concepts

Jo finds that some of the concepts in lectures are difficult to understand and he’d like the lecturer to explain them all again.  He uses UWL Replay to review difficult points at his own pace.

    1. Before lecture
Review your notes from the previous lecture and read through the lecture slides if they are available.

    2. During the lecture
Engage with the lecture and make the most of the experience and contact time you have with the lecturer.

    3. After lecture
Use UWL Replay to rewatch the parts of the lecture you didn't understand. You can pause and rewind as much as you like.
  • 3. To help with long term memory

Sam has been forgetting the things he learned in lectures earlier in the year and wants a way to improve his long term knowledge.  He uses UWL Replay to remind himself of previous lectures regularly throughout term.

    1. Before lecture
Engage with the lecturer and your peers to make the most of discussing new ideas.

    2. During the lecture
Review your notes and use UWL Replay to fill in any gaps.

    3. After lecture
Return to your notes and remind yourself of key concepts. If you don't understand something, use UWL Replay to review how the lecturer presented it.
  • 4. To study on the go

Shabana has a long commute on the underground and wants to use the time to study, but has no Internet connection.  She can download her lectures and watch them offline.
