Why international students choose UWL

Susan Nakyonyi, International Student Ambassador

Hear from Susan Nakyonyi, Master of Public Health (MPH) student and International Student Ambassador, to find out more about us and what to expect when you start your journey at UWL.

  • How did you learn about the University of West London?

I hail from Uganda (the pearl of Africa) in East Africa. I got to learn about UWL from my friend that had already lived in south London. She highly recommended the University and therefore I started on my application."

  • What attracted you to apply to study with us?

UWL is recognised as a career university. Public health being the next in my academic career, I literally had little idea of what to expect in that manner; thus I needed a university that would be of great help in advancing. It was my best choice to unveil my new abilities of knowledge and understanding."

  • What are your initial impressions of the University?

I initially thought that UWL is open and welcomes students from different ethnic backgrounds that exhibit different careers. Starting from the admission process and enrolment till commencement of studies, I was impressed with the welcoming session it rendered to us as new students and most especially the internationals. That warm welcome gave us green light."

  • What reflections do you have on the programme after the first month of teaching?

The first month was rough for me: the modules seemed to be complex. We had a lot to adjust upon the teaching style and the different social daily aspects (culture and norm) in a foreign country - it was terrible! With the help of our lecturers and the Library and IT teams, we managed to persevere through. I am hopeful and enthusiastic that in the due course I will be able to achieve my dream of becoming a public health specialist."

Located just minutes from central London, with parks and green spaces on your doorstep, the University of West London offers an exceptional study environment for international students looking to pursue their academic and career aspirations.

London is consistently voted as one of the best cities in the world for studying abroad and at UWL we welcome students from over 100 countries worldwide.

In this video, hear from a selection of our international students talking about why they chose to study at UWL.
