4 pieces of great life advice – from the people who have been where you are

Introduction

With the end of the academic year on the horizon, you will all be busy completing assignments. Some of you may also be preparing to head out into the world of work and begin your professional lives.

So – with that in mind – we thought we’d call on the people who have been in your shoes before for a few pieces of advice to help you on your journey. Here are four pieces of great life advice from UWL alumni.

Amanda

Follow your passion, be authentic and creative.

- Amanda

At UWL, we’re here for whoever you want to be. It’s all about supporting you in pursuit of your passion, so that one day you can find a job that inspires you.

Check out the Student Hub for all the support available to you.

Chandni

Make connections with people who share the same passion and vision as you. When you come together on the same wavelength great things are born!

- Chandni

University is a place where you can find friends for life and meet people who may become important connections to you, as you develop your future career. And they can come from all corners of the UWL community.

Joining a UWL Students’ Union sports team or society is a great way to meet people who share the same passions as you.

Max

Keep working towards achieving your goals each day and don’t forget to help others on the way.

- Max

We love this. All significant goals in life can be broken down into smaller parts. And by working hard to achieve little things each day, you can make the bigger goals a reality over time.

Identify what you want in life first – then develop a roadmap to get there. The Study Support team can help you with a study plan and the Careers team can help you with a career plan. Head over to the Student Hub to find out more.

Also, volunteering is a great way to help others, while learning valuable skills. The V Team has loads of fantastic opportunities to give back and make a difference in the community.

Martin

My advice would be to stay focused, have more passion than the next guy, and get hustling out there. It's not easy. There are a lot of things I failed at and opportunities I missed. You need to make your own opportunities. They don't just arrive.

- Martin

This is great advice. It’s really easy to lose focus when there is so much noise and so many challenges around you. That’s why we’re encouraging all of you to complete your assignments on time.

It will help to relieve your workload and the pressures that come with it. And you’ll still have the opportunity to improve your mark, if you wish, through an uncapped resit, under our emergency regulations.
