Throughout January, the canteens at St Mary’s Road and Paragon House are offering a range of delicious vegan hot meals including burger and fries, lasagne and garlic bread, and vegan steak, aubergine and butternut squash served with spiced tomato masala and crushed potatoes. As an added incentive for choosing a vegan hot meal, from 3-15 January you will get a half price drink and from 16-31 January a half price vegan Kit Kat.

Animal agriculture is responsible for an estimated 5% to 16.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions,” says Peter Cross, Senior Lecturer at UWL's London Geller College of Hospitality & Tourism. “Veganuary is a simple way to reduce emissions that anyone can get behind, however providing tasty, delicious vegan options may require training and education. There should be a consideration for the texture, colour, aroma, flavour, and nutritional value. We are proud to provide insights in this area, working with organisations such as Forward Food UK and The Chefs’ Manifesto to instil these principles in our food and nutrition programmes.”
UWL is committed to continually improving its environmental performance and sustainability. The University was recently ranked 1st class for sustainability (17th place overall, in the top 5 of London universities) by the People & Planet student campaigning network in their University League 2022/2023 for environmental efforts including carbon reduction and food sustainability.
