UWL celebrates its research community making a real difference to society, science and the economy

From cyber monitoring and artificial intelligence, to monitoring the health of ancient trees, this year’s School of Computing and Engineering Research Showcase highlighted the fascinating topics explored at the University of West London (UWL).
In a series of talks and poster presentations, staff and students presented some of their pioneering work showcasing the breadth and quality of research taking place at the University.
The University of West London has a strong reputation in applied research, providing insight and solutions to real-world problems.
Executive Dean of UWL’s School of Computing and Engineering Professor Amir Alani said:
This was a fantastic event and a wonderful opportunity for colleagues and students to share knowledge, as well as their academic innovations, with one another.
I am extremely proud of the research that has been undertaken at the School of Computing and Engineering, over the past year.
Associate Professor Dr Fabio Tosti and Postdoctoral Research Fellow Dr Iraklis Giannakis presented their work on the Latest advancements in the health monitoring of ancient trees using non-destructive testing methods. Senior Lecturer Dr Massoud Zolgharni discussed AI – remedy for the Achilles’ Heel of Self-Driving Echocardiographic Laboratory. While Dr Junaid Arshad presented on Cyber Monitoring and Defence for the Internet of Things.
Students also presented academic posters, showcasing the in-depth research that they have undertaken at UWL, and were awarded with a gift bag for their achievement. Topics for these ranged from Monitoring and Controlling Water Pipelines in Buildings to The impact of Social Networking and Healthy Eating in Society.

The standard of quality shown by the students is impressive, and demonstrates a degree of knowledge and skill that makes them well-equipped for their future careers!
