Main body
Shawlina Pun volunteers both as a Project Leader on the V Team’s One Day Challenge Scheme and is a mentor on the Higher Education Mentoring Scheme.
I was inspired to start volunteering because I simply wanted to help people, and to give something back to the community."
Shawlina feels volunteering has increased her employability skills, as well as boosted her confidence.
As a result of my volunteering with the V Team I successfully applied to be a mentor on the Higher Education Mentoring Scheme, and to be a Student Ambassador. Volunteering built my skills and allowed me to gain a reference for job applications."
Shawlina concludes:
Volunteering is not just for your CV, it actually helps you to become a better person. One of my highlights has been volunteering with a soup kitchen at a local church, as it made me appreciate everything I have. Once you start volunteering you will be hooked!"
