Dominic Browne
I have been a practising paramedic since 1997 and involved in paramedic education since 2001. Following a BSc in Physiology from Manchester University, my early working life was a combination of teaching English and working with adults with learning disabilities before I settled on a career in paramedicine.
I undertook my initial training with the Essex Ambulance Service in 1995 and transferred to the London Ambulance Service (LAS) in 1997. Since then, most of my experience has come in inner city locations such as Camden, Islington and Fulham.
I have been pitchside paramedic for Arsenal FC since 1997, a role I continue to this day (although the glory days seem a long time ago...). I spent six months as expedition medic with Raleigh International in 2002 and following further study through St.Georges University, I took on new skills and worked as an Advanced Practitioner in Urgent Care Centres Across London.
From 2012-2015, I was skills lead for the OU Apprentice Paramedic Programme within the LAS, then, from 2016, Programme Lead for the LAS HCPC Paramedic Programme. I hold a PGCert in Healthcare Leadership, a PGCE in post-compulsory education and a MSc in Mental Health Science. I am a Fellow of the HEA and I enjoy teaching pharmacology, paramedic skills, study skills and psychology. I have three kids still at school so cannot ever, ever retire.
