Kirsty Barclay staff profile

Kirsty Barclay

Lecturer in Midwifery
College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare

Since qualifying as a midwife in 2007, I have worked across a variety of clinical settings, supporting women and their families with varying care needs and complications.

My interests in midwifery lie in postnatal care and since joining the UWL team in early 2020, I have developed an interest in research, which has led to me becoming a peer reviewer for the British Journal of Midwifery.

Throughout my clinical career, I always relished in supporting and teaching students during their midwifery journey, which inspired me to become a lecturer. I also have a keen interest in healthcare students wellbeing, which inspired the focus of my MSc dissertation.

Teaching

Throughout my career, I have always been involved in teaching and learning. Clinically this was as a practice supervisor and assessor and now as a lecturer as part of the UWL team.

I have a variety of experience across all aspects of midwifery care and although I enjoyed supporting women throughout the pregnancy continuum, I found a passion for postnatal care and the difference I could make during a woman's transition to motherhood at such an important time.
