Neil Larman
Following my first degree at UCL, and a short Nursing career, I joined the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust (LAS) as a Qualified Ambulance Person. Through a passion for innovation and change I influenced and rose through operational leadership roles including Paramedic, Clinical Team Manager, Duty Officer and finally Station Officer to 160 staff. To this day I continue to work ad-hoc as an Operational Commander for the Trust covering both planned and unplanned large-scale events across the capital.
However, in 2005 I returned to clinical practice in order to develop the emerging role of Emergency Care Practitioner. Later joining the LAS Higher Education Team to work with London partner university programmes. From there I became the LAS tactical lead on all clinical placement activity and also took on the role of Higher Education Visitor for the College of Paramedics, which today allows me to support the Paramedic Professional body and advise Paramedic courses providers across the UK.
In 2017 I again returned to enhanced clinical practice to assist in the creation of an Advanced Paramedic Practitioner in Urgent Care role. Today I work part-time in this highly demanding yet stimulating role, which involves practice not only in Emergency Response settings, but also GP practice, Urgent Care Centres and Control & Command centres.
Concurrently in 2019 I joined UWL on secondment to help deliver the UKs first Preregistration MSc in Paramedic Science. Today I am fortunate to lead the course and to work with an array of outstanding colleagues, stakeholders and most especially, students.
My three children are all grown up, so more time for these roles. However, I retain my love for all things motorcycle and camping, often in combination.
