Shirley Cameron was co-opted as a member of the UWL Finance Committee between 2014 and 2016 and appointed as Governor in 2016. She is Deputy Chair of the Board of Governors and Chair of the Finance and Remuneration Committees.
Shirley is a chartered accountant and treasurer and is currently Director of Revenue and Customer Management of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) where she leads the team managing licence fee collection strategy and operations.
During her career at the BBC, Shirley has held a wide range of finance, project and management roles across all divisions of the organisation. She was part of the launch team for the News Channel, BBC News Online and BBC Parliament. Within the property division, she led the operations and finances for the redevelopment of Broadcasting House (the BBC’s largest capital project). In the Television, Radio and Digital divisions she has managed significant reinvestment and efficiency programmes.
After a BA in Economics and Accounting at Reading University, Shirley completed her chartered accountancy training with KPMG in London before a secondment to the firm’s Melbourne office. Her professional experience covers financial accounting, treasury, audit, mergers and acquisitions, tax and corporate governance.
Shirley is a trustee of BBC Media Action and Honorary Treasurer of the Hansard Society. She lives in west London with her husband and two children.
