Here are our 10 top tips for staying safe at university :
1. Is it a silly question?
Ask questions and speak to your academic teams, University support teams and friends. Remember to reach out to the Welfare Team.
2. Where am I?
Plan ahead if you are unfamiliar with your route or the area you are in. What3Words app is great for connecting with others who are lost. Always inform a trusted friend of your whereabouts.
3. Is sharing caring?
Do not share any personal, private, or financial information or pictures with people online that you do not know, or you have not met. They may not be who they claim to be. Always be mindful of the information you choose to share.
4. Scams
Scams can occur through emails, texts, and telephone calls. Remember to be vigilant and try not to click on links if you are unsure. Never share any personal, private, or financial information.
5. Back up!
Back up all academic work to your Cloud or hard drive. Make use of the University support services for your academic work such as Study Support. Check UWL policies and guidelines on Plagiarism and the use of AI.
6. Protect your possessions
Ensure your valuable possessions are insured and make sure your home is safe and secure. Be wary of sharing valuables, don't leave them unattended, and store them out of sight or locked away where possible. Never share keys, codes, passwords, or PINs.
7. Can I say "no"?
Consent for any intimacy or sexual activity can be given or withdrawn at any time by any individual.
8. C-Card
Register for free condoms for all students between 18 - 24 years old.
