Introduction

UWL are committed to ensuring you feel safe and confident at university. We take strict action on any forms of sexual harassment, including sexual consent and misconduct; this can be read in the Student Code of Conduct and our Student Disciplinary Policy.

It is important that we remind ourselves what sexual misconduct and sexual consent means and how we can support you.

Main body

Sexual harassment

Sexual harassment is unwelcome and inappropriate sexual remarks or physical advances. It can include unwanted touching, stalking, degrading remarks or jokes, and sexually inappropriate or offensive communication sent via social media, including the display of sexually inappropriate material.

Sexual consent

It’s as simple as tea… watch this short video about consent.

Sexual consent means a person willingly agrees to engage in a sexual activity, and they are free and capable to make their own decision. It is a criminal offence if someone touches you with sexual intent if you have not consented or are unable to freely consent.

How can I get support?

If you or someone you know has been affected by sexual assault or harassment, we are here to give you advice and support.

Student services will offer appropriate support and help report any issues as appropriate. For support, talk to one of our advisers in welfare:

If you ever feel unsafe call security on 0208 231 2001 or in an emergency call the police on 999.

Students should also make a compliant if appropriate, and guidance on how to deal with these issues is set out in our Guidance on dealing with unacceptable behaviour policy.

Victim Support provides a specialist service within London and all over England for survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence and hate crime. This service is delivered by the Vulnerable Victim Coordinator, who provides support to individuals.

Your doctor can also support you. They can give you advice and point you in the direction of specialist services that can help support you. They can also help if your health is suffering, such as anxiety, depression, headaches, or other physical health issues.
