Paragon Annex Studios

Our newest facilities are just down the road from our Ealing site, the Paragon Annex Studios are useful for a wide range of tasks – from tracking live bands, to recording Foley, to mixing in Dolby Atmos.

The seven studios feature Audient ASP8024 or ASP4816 recording consoles or the Avid C24 control surface and boast a wide range of outboard for all needs. Both stereo and 5.1 Monitoring is by Dynaudio, PMC, Amphion and Unity Audio, and Studio 3 boasts a full range 5.1 PMC IB1 system designed for Audio Post Production and sound to picture.

Each studio comes with extensive outboard systems a variety of digital and analogue synths and an extensive mic stock, giving you the best tools to create your recordings. All tracking rooms enjoy access to one of three shared live rooms of varying sizes, with a Steinway Baby Grand in the largest room, which is full capable of accommodating a full band.

  • Vestry Hall Studios 1 and 2

    Studio 1

    Featuring a Custom Series-75 Neve console, an Otari MTR90 Mk2 24-track 2” analogue tape recorder, and Pro Tools HDX with Apogee Symphony AD/DA and monitoring by ATC and Amphion, this studio represents a dedication to quality signal-path and a combination of classic and contemporary recording capabilities. The room enjoys extensive outboard hardware – including vintage gear from Amek, Urei, AMS and more, and an impressive mic selection including Neumann, DPA, Coles, AKG and Beyer mics.

    The studio is connected to Vestry Hall, a large orchestral recording space, and a separate, fully isolated, drum and amplified-instrument live room.

    Studio 2

    Studio 2 is designed to facilitate collaborative and experimental audio techniques, acting as a base for postgraduate MA students studying on the Advanced Music Technology, Record Production and Electronic Music Composition.

    Recently rebuilt, this studio is designed around a 17-channel 3D speaker array, capable of both Dolby Atmos and Auro 3D® monitoring, and a Focusrite RedNet AoIP system, enabling easy connection and signal routing between multiple computers for project collaboration.

    Extensive outboard and synth/sampling hardware plus the flexible speaker array makes this studio a collaborative and experimental-audio powerhouse.

    The studio is connected to Vestry Hall, a large orchestral recording space, and a separate, fully isolated, drum and amplified-instrument live room.

  • St Mary's Road Basement Studios

    All of our St Mary’s Road Basement Studios feature either a Digidesign C24 control surface or an Audient ASP 8024 analogue recording console.

    Each room is also equipped with Protools HDX and Focusrite RedNet IO hardware for high end AD/DA and boast a wide range of outboard for all possible needs.

    Both stereo and 5.1 Monitoring is by Dynaudio, PMC, Amphion and Unity Audio.

    Each studio comes with its own Dynamic and Condenser Microphone kits of a professional standard, giving you the best tools to create your recordings.

    All tracking rooms enjoy access to live rooms of varying sizes and many feature multiple isolated booths which feature acoustic pianos by Steinway.

    Further information

    • The original basement studio was recently refurbed and updated with new Amphion and Unity Audio monitors. This studio features a small live room and additional ties to the large amplified performance room next door. 
    • There is also a workhorse tracking and mixing room with a large live room and a separate vocal booth.
    • Studio 2’s live room features variable acoustic treatment and a Steinway baby grand piano.
    • A Veale-Associates-designed 5.1 tracking and mixing room boasting 2 separate live rooms and a wealth of outboard Hardware.
    • Studio 3’s live room features a large isolated booth with video links to the control room.

The Townshend Studio

The Townshend Studio is a creative space for learning, collaboration, experimentation and play.

The studio is a collection of instruments used by Pete Townshend, co-founder of The Who and Ealing School of Art (now UWL) alumnus, who described his time at the School as “a revelation”. The collection is comprised of 12 principal synthesisers, plus many other instruments which have been used by Pete throughout his career.

Paragon Annex Studios

A primary teaching space to allow stereo tracking and mixing techniques to be explored without the need to use the studios. This room features an identical equipment spec to the larger stereo rooms found in the basement, at Paragon annex and at Vestry Hall.

The labs are used for teaching technique classes across the curriculum. The labs are open 24/7 during semesters and are a walk in resource outside of taught classes.
