Shreya paves her way in the male-dominated computing industry
Introduction
Helping to boost uptake of women in STEM, a University of West London student is setting out to challenge perceptions and empower more women building careers in science and technology.
Final-year Computer Science student Shreya Singh- who’s always had a passion for coding and software development – is keen to confront stereotypes and make sure women aren’t put off from careers in science, technology, engineering, and maths because of negative perceptions.

Already well on the way to progressing her future in computer science as she studies at the University’s School of Computing and Engineering, she said:
I’ve been interested in computers from a young age after watching my uncle working in software development, and he would code for hours and fix bugs. I once asked him if I could do the same in the future - that's the moment that he introduced me to the foundation of engineering.
He’s been my inspiration and I'm so thankful to him for introducing me to this path where I can keep learning and push my limits. The fast-pacing innovation of technology never stops amazing me, which excites my intrinsic curiosity even more.
We need to tackle the myths that these subjects are boring or too difficult, and encourage more women to consider futures in STEM to build exciting careers.”
And at UWL, she’s got all the facilities and expert teaching needed to help her excel in the world of computing.
