How did you hear about the University of West London?
When I first started considering studying overseas, it was initially overwhelming: visa, aeroplane tickets, packing. There was a lot to think about! I knew I first had to apply to UCAS, which started my journey. Much googling was done, searching both musical theatre courses and universities that provide a well-functioning international student program. While researching, I found that the University of West London was awarded the best university for Student Experience and Teaching Quality in the UK in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024. This is the foundation of when I started considering UWL as my future university."

What attracted you to apply to study with us?
As a practical learner, I was thrilled to hear that my course intensely focused on learning through movement and physical practice: as a musical theatre practitioner, a book can only do so much! The staff I contacted were happy to give me additional information regarding my course and offered further assistance if needed, which was a great first impression! Having supportive mentors makes a massive difference, especially when you’ve moved to a country where you don’t necessarily have the general support of your family like back home.
Through the UWL website and social media platforms, I was eager to learn about the extracurricular societies and events they offered. I was thrilled to find out that the university has many student-led societies and clubs that range a vast selection of different interests, including in and outdoor sports, drama, music and literature. This was yet another plus that attracted me to studying at the University!"

What are your initial impressions of the University?
Throughout my first few weeks of university studies, I was warmly welcomed by all my lecturers and classmates. UWL provides a very relaxed atmosphere by providing spaces for students to chill, hang out with friends and fill the much-needed food cravings that one musters up during classes and lectures. There are multiple cafes and food precincts on the Ealing site, where all my classes are for my course. My classmates and I love chatting and coffee at the student-led café (Coffee Union) before class!"

What reflections do you have on the programme after the first month of teaching?
During the first semester of my musical theatre course, I have three different modules running. They each incorporate different aspects of singing, anatomy, musical knowledge, acting, movement and dance. The great mix of focuses allows me to constantly think without getting overwhelmed in one particular area. I have also enjoyed seeing the different teaching styles that each lecturer has implemented into how they engage others and help them learn: this interests me as someone who wants to perform and teach in the future. Recently, I viewed a Level Five showcase on what they’ve been working on and it has made me both excited and enthused for what I have to come during my experience at UWL."
