Dr Bernadine Idowu, Associate Professor in Biomedical Science, explains why she loves UWL.

About a year ago, I had an opportunity to address the Board of Governors – the group of people who are responsible for the strategic direction of the University

And I explained to them how my own journey began with someone recognising my potential and believing in me. If just one person can have this impact on me, imagine the impact we can have as a university – we need to be constantly looking to unlock the potential of our students and believing in what they can do.

I see this happening every day in my own School and in the great work being done by staff across the University. And at UWL, students can also support one another to unlock their potential – that's what the Peer Mentoring Scheme is all about.

Do take some time to read about how two of my students have been benefiting from our Peer Mentoring Scheme and think about signing up yourself.

Why do I love UWL? It’s simple. I have been listened to from the first day I stepped into the University.  I have been supported in so many ways I did not even think possible. I can just be Bernadine. My voice matters, my students’ voices matter. UWL is my dream University.
