Little Simz – a former UWL student – has won Best New Artist at this year’s Brit Awards as well as performing for some of the biggest names in the industry during the televised ceremony.

The rapper, who came to UWL’s London College of Music to study Music Management before her career took off, collected her award this week in the biggest annual celebration of British talent.

Little Simz has already made huge waves in the music industry, being described as 'a rapper’s rapper’, having written, recorded, and released four mixtapes, five EPs, and her first studio album – all on her own label - by the age of 21.

Taking to the stage at Tuesday’s BRITs, she also performed her hits, ‘Introvert’ and ‘Woman’ before celebrating four award nominations and the impressive win with her family.

Celebrating her achievements and ongoing success, Professor Anthony Woodman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at UWL, said the whole University was behind Little Simz as she continues to make her mark in the global music industry. He said

This is an absolutely incredible achievement for one of our former students and we are so proud of how much she has achieved,” Since leaving UWL to focus on her career, she has achieved so much as a musician and a woman in that industry and we wish her all the best as she continues to build on this success."
