UWL business students discuss sustainability with a panel from Barclays Bank

Introduction

Today’s students want to work for organisations that not only offer career progression, but genuinely aim to make a sustainable impact. To further this career objective, UWL’s Claude Littner Business School and UWL’s Employment Service recently organised a session on Sustainability and Employability delivered by an expert panel from Barclays Bank.

More than 60 students attended the interactive session with Barclays staff Dassos Alexandro (Education Sector), Ian Chesham (Private Bank), Will Roberts (Public Sector, Debt Finance and Lead on ESG), Olivia Lewis (Charities and Not-For-Profits) and Bhavesh Dave (HR).

The session delved into the theme of sustainability through the lenses of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), highlighting the importance of embedding ESG into investment strategies.

The panel presented practical insights into Barclays’ own sustainable investment strategies which were highly relevant to the students as they were already studying various modules exploring sustainability,” said Dean of the School Dr Amelia Au-Yeung. “This stimulated a vibrant discussion which included the current and future key drivers of sustainability.”

Students were able to find out about Barclays’ graduate programmes and internships and received top tips on navigating the application process. At the end of the discussion session, students were able to continue networking with the panel.

This was such a helpful session,”

said one of the students who attended.

I came away inspired and keen to take my first steps towards a career that really can deliver genuine change – in more ways than one.”
