UWL Professor Fabio Tosti named editor-in-chief of new international scientific journal NDT

Intro

University of West London Professor Fabio Tosti, Professor of Civil Engineering and Director of The Faringdon Research Centre for Non-Destructive Testing and Remote Sensing - a world expert on ground penetrating radar and remote sensing technologies - has been appointed editor-in-chief of new international peer-reviewed open access journal NDT, published by MDPI.

Non-destructive testing science consists of a variety of non-invasive inspection techniques used in many areas of science, including civil engineering and green infrastructure to evaluate natural habitats, material properties, components, and entire infrastructures.  

The testing methods can also be used to detect, characterise, or evaluate the presence and scale of damage like corrosion in reinforced concrete structures or pipes and utilities.  

Such approaches minimise the need for disruption, for example, closing major transportation networks like bridges, roadways, and railways, and allow to increase enormously the amount of information for the management of these assets.  

NDT’s goal is to become a leading research title by sharing more cross-sector data, theories and insights from different academic and research disciplines that have a practical and positive impact on non-destructive testing. It will cover archaeology, AI, biological science, medicine, broader engineering disciplines and art. 

Professor Tosti said,

It is an exciting time to be in the non-destructive testing sector and I am delighted to cover this new role of editor-in-chief. There is now an even greater demand for more sustainable solutions that do not damage the natural and the built environment and, at the same time, can provide ample and reliable information for a more informed and smart management of our assets.”  

With the support of a prestigious board of international and well-renowned experts, NDT will contribute disseminating the latest research and industrial findings in the sector by publicly sharing open-access research papers, reviews, and case studies.  

UWL has a strong history and commitment to non-destructive testing solutions. Its Faringdon Research Centre for Non-Destructive Testing and Remote Sensing uses both hardware and software-based methods, always looking for the best ways of assessing damage to the natural and built environments. This minimises the need for evasive intervention, whilst looking at smarter and more sustainable solutions for asset management.  

Professor Tosti added,

As one of the affiliated societies to NDT, The Faringdon Research Centre for Non-Destructive Testing and Remote Sensing will also have the opportunity to echo its international stand by associating its name to this new and exciting international editorial project.”
