UWL recognised as “Among the best” in peer group in latest Knowledge Exchange Framework 3 (KEF3) results

Intro

The University of West London welcomes the recent publication of the third Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF3) by Research England. KEF3 celebrates the role UWL plays in helping deliver local, national and international priorities through collaboration with businesses, communities, NGOS and charities, the public sector and individuals outside of Higher Education.

Article body

The KEF aims to allow providers of higher education to better understand and improve their own performance in knowledge exchange, as well as provide more information about the world-class knowledge and expertise within English providers of higher education. UWL’s achievements in this year's framework include attaining ratings of "high" or "very high" across three out of seven categories for:

  • Local growth and regeneration
  • Research partnerships
  • CPD and graduate start-ups

UWL is among the best in its peer group among 18 other universities. UWL is above its cluster peer group average in the remaining areas which are public and community engagement; working with the public and third sector; working with business and IP and commercialisation.

The third iteration of the Knowledge Exchange Framework is underpinned by robust data collected by universities from August 2019 to July 2022. Provost and Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Anthony Woodman explains:

KEF3 highlights the importance of the work we do, demonstrating significant improvements for UWL across a number of perspectives and evidences the breadth of our activities that help serve the economy and society, for the benefit of the public, business and communities.

By harnessing our expertise these collaborations with non-HE partners deliver meaningful economic and social benefit. Following our successes across the Research Excellence Framework and being named The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023 University of the Year for both student experience and teaching quality, we are proud to add our growing strength in Knowledge Exchange to our list of achievements."
