UWL student wows The Voice judges (again)

Introduction

A University of West London (UWL) student Christina Ellinas is through to the next round of ITV’s The Voice after winning the battle round!

Christina first wowed the panel and the audience during the blind auditions back in January, getting three turns from the judges.

The 27-year-old who traded her job as a flight attendant to pursue music and study full time at UWL’s London College of Music (LCM) - had the judges competing for her on Saturday night after her rendition of 'Lullaby' by Paloma Faith.

Christina, originally from Liverpool, has loved singing since she was a child. When she’s not busy with her studies, she performs in the pubs of Camden and for the audience on her YouTube channel.

Christina said when asked about her experience of that night:

Obviously, I was nervous, but I had dreamt about this moment all of my life. When I was backstage, I was thinking back to that little girl singing her bedroom and I had to pinch myself that this was about to happen; I was so ready!

will.i.am was the first judge to turn his chair, with Olly Murs and Tom Jones following closely behind. Christina chose will.i.am to be her coach on the show. While on the stage she revealed it wasn't the first time that they had met. The contestant said she met will.i.am at the Qantas lounge in Sydney airport when Christina was a flight attendant.

Christina added:

I always said I would be lucky if just one coach turned, and I would be grateful to have any of them as they are all legends! However, I have looked up to will.i.am and admired his work since I was a child.

Not only is he part of one of the biggest groups in the world, The Black Eyed Peas, but he is also a singer, composer, producer, philanthropist, and all-around creative genius. His insight into the music industry paired with his musicality offers an experience I could not pass up. Anything I learn from him is invaluable. Oh, and we are both vegan!

The Voice 2019 started on 5 January and airs Saturdays on ITV at 8pm. The format of the show sees contestants take part in blind auditions and the judges spin round in their chairs if they want to mentor them.

The Battle stage of the competition started on 23 February when all the teams returned, including Christina.
