Teams of students from Featherstone High School, Alperton Community School, Putney High School and St Thomas More Language College showcased their achievements and shared their experiences in setting up companies to four judges, one of whom was Farshad Eshraghi, Senior Lecturer in Business and Management at UWL’s Claude Littner Business School.

Tara Bell, Educational Partnerships Manager for Young Enterprise, said:

Young Enterprise programmes provide opportunities for young people to develop essential skills and attitudes which not only enrich their academic learning, but also provide a strong foundation for the future. We’re so grateful to UWL for hosting this event.”

After interviews with the judges, practice rehearsals and lunch, the students gave four-minute company presentations sharing their experiences of what they’d learned while developing their networks and advertising and selling their products.

One of the Alperton students said:

On this journey we have learned diligence, resilience and exceptional team working skills. We have persevered through communication problems and demanding academic responsibilities.”

One of the Putney students said:

This experience has been extremely valuable, enhancing our organisational, prioritisation and communication skills.”

Stephen Fry, Executive Director of the Westmont Enterprise Hub, said to the students:

Congratulations on all you have achieved to get here. Help me congratulate you by growing your business as you come forward into a university environment. The only thing we’re missing at the Westmont Enterprise Hub is you.”

The judges praised each of the teams for their hard work and presented them with awards including the Marketing Award, Team Journey Award, Sustainability Award, Best Presentation, and Third, Second and Best Company.

The best three companies move on to the next stage of the competition, the Central London final on 27 April.
