Gurpreet Rodrigo

Lecturer in Public Health
College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare

Prior to joining the College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare, I worked with the University Students’ Union in my role as Support and Outreach Manager where I overlooked and managed the effective delivery of the Advice service in the Students’ Union advocating on behalf of students in academic and non-academic related matters, supporting and providing pastoral care; a key part to maintain retention in Higher education.

Having joined the college of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare in 2014 as a Research and Teaching assistant, I worked on Primary care projects in conjunction with Health Education England North West London focussing on Scoping the needs of the primary care workforce and assisting in the development and provision of the Educational Needs of Practice Nurses in Primary care. Following the success of the project we were awarded with the Health Education England North West London 2016 Excellence in Education & Training for Innovation in Nursing Role Development award.

Alongside this, my focus was on supporting student’s learning and engagement in higher education and teaching modules in health and wellbeing as well as academic writing skills to a diverse range of students including International students, nursing students and students studying Health promotion and public health.

In my current role as a lecturer in Public health, I teach on various modules across all years. My interests lie in Determinants of health and social and health inequalities. Exploring issues in women's health, the social context in which women live and the impact of social and cultural factors on women’s health are of particular interest.
