This credit-bearing CPD course will teach you to think critically about your role as a healthcare manager who has responsibility for workforce planning and the strategic workplace requirements of your organisation.

You will explore the wide range of influences that impact workforce planning before using this knowledge and enhancing your skills by learning in practice.

The course, which is delivered online, will incorporate a strong emphasis on ‘action learning’, addressing the specific problems, challenges and issues that staff encounter in the workplace.

Course requirements - You are expected to have achieved your degree and have studied to Level 6. You may also have some experience of Level 7 study. 

Cost and funding: This fee covers the full course cost.

  • Sept 24 - Aug 25 fees: £900
  • Sept 25 - Aug 26 fees: TBC

This course is taught on day release, select a start date to see the study days:

Study days are from 9am to 5pm and are delivered online.

The course will include:

  • an overview of workforce planning, including population pyramids and future planning
  • a consideration of the strategic and political context for workforce planning in healthcare
  • an understanding of the wider context and stakeholders in your context around workforce planning.

Professor Rowan Myron

I am an experienced researcher, writer, presenter and manager with expertise in psychology, improvement science and knowledge mobilisation in healthcare. I use innovative techniques to build team dynamics with staff, researchers and patients. I also lead the University's doctoral research programmes, and have a strong interest in using new technologies to engage frontline staff in learning opportunities.

This CPD can be taken as a standalone module or studied alongside similar CPDs (Leading Workforce Planning and Workforce Planning for Service Improvement) to receive the overarching award PgCert Strategic Workforce Planning.

You may wish to use your PgCert credits and continue on to the MSc Improvement Science by completing a dissertation module.

You should be working in a healthcare setting and be willing to apply the learning to your setting. 

We recommend your application is submitted to the University at least two weeks prior to the start of the course.

After your application is accepted and you have been offered a place on the course, you will be sent information about how to enrol. You must complete enrolment before your course starts.
