Our BSc Business Analytics degree is designed for students who want to excel in the expanding industry of data-driven decision-making within the business sector. 

Intersecting the fields of data analysis and business strategy, the course explores a range of analytical techniques for interpreting and leveraging the data that drives organisational success.

Foundation Year

The foundation year course is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to continue onto your Honours degree. You will study a range of subjects that will underpin your future study and also gain valuable experience of university life, with full access to campus facilities. Successful completion of the year allows you to progress straight onto Level 4 of this course. Please note that a £2000 Path to Success bursary is available to all UK foundation year students, which is non-repayable.

Our BSc Business Analytics course aims to equip you with the necessary skills to thrive in the data-driven business world.

Covering a wide range of analytical techniques, the curriculum is designed to build proficiency in data interpretation, statistical analysis, and leveraging business intelligence tools.

The course’s emphasis on practical skills and real-world application will teach you how to make data-driven decisions that drive business success.

Foundation year

There are many reasons for joining a foundation year course; you may not have the exact subjects or grades at A level to meet the entry requirements, you may have been living abroad or want to change direction with your career. Whatever your starting point, the foundation year offers a firm grounding in the skills and knowledge that you will need to get the most from your studies and thrive at University. Successful completion of the foundation year allows you to progress straight onto Level 4 of this course.

    This module has been designed to give you a basic understanding of organisations with emphasis on conceptual and interpersonal skills, an overview of the challenges that arise for managers in organisational settings, and to provide you with an introduction to the concepts and theories that can be useful in facilitating effectiveness.

  • Professional Skills

    In this module, you will learn to outline academic writing skills and presentation skills, show effectively working with others towards the completion of a task (teamwork skills), present skills in oral and written communication in the business environment, as well as duplicate the importance of business etiquette and the importance of rules and values in an organisation. 

  • Quantitative Methods

    The module aims to provide an understanding of the role of data analysis in business and finance. Develop basic analytical and numerical skills into an ability to approach and solve business problems and develop the ability to interpret numerical results as an aid to decision-making.

  • Introduction to Economics

    The aim of the module is to help you to develop an awareness of the economic environment in which business operates, within a local, national and international context.

  • Employability Skills

    In this module, you will develop the personal and professional skills to prepare you for the world of work and understanding the concept of employability; reflecting on your career journey; and developing an active LinkedIn profile. The module will link closely with the other modules delivered during the semester and will help you to prepare for your future career and grasp core business theory.

  • Analysis of Real World Issues

    The aim of this module is to enable you to critically evaluate the challenges faced by organisations in today’s perplexing business environment nationally and internationally. Furthermore, this module will allow you to critically examine the type, nature and gravity of those challenges and create an organisation which is flexible and fluid to adopt to those challenges.

  • Introduction to Business

    During this module you will gain a basic knowledge and understanding of business organisations and the way they operate in the UK economy.

  • Personalised Learning

    The Personalised Learning module is intended to equip you with the study skills needed to successfully progress onto level 4, the first year of undergraduate study. Tutor group sessions are an integral part of the module, where you will consolidate your learning and frame it in the context of your subject area. The module will focus on various aspects of study skills, such as those skills related to reading and writing, learning approaches, problem-solving techniques, critical thinking, researching, referencing, plagiarism, legal research and time management.

  • Data Handling and ICT

    You will develop skills and confidence in the use and application of numerical data and analysis. 

    You will also prepare, present and process data using business software.

  • Managing People and Systems

    In the course of this management module you will explore people management within business structures and how they lead to the fulfilment of business goals.

    You will learn about recruitment, different personalities, team dynamics, people assessment systems and understand basic theories of motivation and leadership.

  • Study Skills for Success

    This module will enable you to read critically, present an argument, and distinguish between the quality and suitability of materials. It will prepare you to use and evaluate a range of evidence sources throughout your degree.

    The aim of the module is to introduce you to the fundamental principles of analytics, focusing on descriptive statistics, spreadsheet skills, and data analysis techniques. By the end of the module, you will be equipped with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to identify, capture, and evaluate business opportunities through data-driven approaches. 

  • Employability Skills

    In this module, you will develop the personal and professional skills to prepare you for the world of work and understanding the concept of employability; reflecting on your career journey; and developing an active LinkedIn profile.   • Marketing Theory and Practice

    In this module, you will learn to evaluate and discuss marketing terminologies, principles, classifications, theories/concepts and orientations. You will have to assess the macro and microenvironment in which the marketing manager operates in, applying marketing theories (PESTLE, SWOT and Porter's Five Forces) to given scenarios. As well as reviewing the type of information required for marketing decision-making through marketing research and marketing information systems.

  • Advanced Presentation and Communication Skills

    In this module, you will be able to explore how to communicate in a professional environment both verbally and in writing and will deliver enhanced skills in public speaking and presenting.

  • Business Negotiations in Practice

    In this module, you will have to examine the effect of the external environment and firm related factors on the negotiation process.

     

  • Business Analytics and Decision Making

    The aim of the module is to equip you with advanced knowledge and skills in business analytics. You will delve deeper into understanding decision-making models and how business analytics can support and influence these decisions. The module will also cover techniques for measuring association, including correlation and regression, as well as methods for collecting data through sample surveys.

  • Business Intelligence

    The aim of the module is to equip you with the knowledge and skills required for applying a variety of business intelligence techniques and to familiarise you with business intelligence software systems used to support data-driven decision-making processes.

  • Organisational Behaviour

    On this module you will gain critical knowledge of how organisations work, and how individuals and groups affect organisational success or failure. You will explore the emerging workplace realities of self-leadership, networks, knowledge management and virtual teams, as well as organisational learning and working within culturally diverse work-place communities.

  • Business Analytics Final Project

    Completed across two terms, this module will provide you with the opportunity to conduct a substantial research project applying analytics techniques to real-world business problems. 

    The module will guide you through the process of identifying a research topic, formulating research questions, applying analytics methodologies, and presenting findings. It will emphasize integrating theoretical concepts with practical applications and developing effective communication skills.

  • Business Sustainability and Social Responsibility in Practice

    In this module, you will critically analyse the drivers of enterprise and wealth creation from the perspective of their ethical implications. You will also investigate changing approaches and attitudes to sustainability and corporate social responsibility. Additionally, you will have to critically evaluate frameworks for the discussion of business ethical issues and the use of tools for managing business ethics.

  • Data Visualisation

    The aim of this module is to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of principles and practices related to data visualisation and dashboard design. You will learn how to effectively communicate insights derived from data analysis through visual representations and interactive dashboards.

  • Forecasting Analysis and Business Optimisation

    The aim of the module is to provide you with an in-depth understanding of forecasting analysis and business optimisation techniques, preparing you to effectively apply these methodologies in real-world business contexts. 

    Through theoretical learning and practical application, you will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to address complex business challenges using optimisation algorithms and forecasting methods. 

  • Big Data and Data Mining

    The aim of this module is to introduce you to the fundamental concepts and techniques of big data analysis and data mining, focusing on practical applications in various domains. You will explore the interdisciplinary nature of data mining, drawing from statistics, machine learning, and computational intelligence to analyse large-scale datasets efficiently to derive actionable insights.

72 UCAS points required from level 3 qualifications

These can include:

  • A Levels at grades B and C (if you have two A levels) or grades D, D and D (if you have three), or above
  • BTEC Extended Diploma with Merit, Merit, Pass
  • Access to HE Diploma
  • T Levels

You also need GCSE English and Maths (grade 9 – 4 / A* - C) or Level 2 equivalents.

Shafqat Abbas is a Senior Lecturer in business and finance. He is a professional academic with more than 10 years of experience in Higher Education. He has successfully delivered and led different business courses at various levels. His expertise covers various practices in international business management, finance and accounting, teaching, assessing, supervising and internal & external quality assurance processes. He had also worked for other colleges and universities, including the London School of Science and Technology, Bloomsbury Institute London, and the University of Bedfordshire.

His areas of expertise are finance and management subjects. His current research interests involve Corporate Governance, Finance, Money and Capital markets, and Corporate Law.

Before starting his professional academic journey, he worked in the banking industry, in both local and international banks, including the Royal Bank of Scotland UK, as a (KYB) Business Analyst.
