With 'Running Up That Hill' charting around the world, Kate Bush has hit the headlines as she has her first ever American top ten hit on her hands. The song is at number eight, 37 years after its original release, thanks to its inclusion in the cult Netflix sci-fi series ‘Stranger Things’. The track entered the UK charts at number eight this week and is currently tipped to knock Harry Styles off the top this weekend.

Channel 5 News reporter Ruth Liptrot, herself a Kate Bush superfan, stopped by UWL yesterday to get London College of Music (LCM) music students’ take on the renewed success of Kate’s classic song.

Speaking on Channel 5 News UWL music management lecturer Ben Bushell explained that the album the track is from – The Hounds of Love – is already familiar to students as it is already something they study on the curriculum.

The students really enjoyed being part of the whole experience and getting to share their views,” Ben added. “This is exactly the sort of moment that shows why studying at LCM is so special – our students really have their finger on the pulse of the music industry and the latest market trends.”

She’s just an amazing artist who has really been pushed up from Stranger Things,” said music management student Alice Stock. “I think it is very good because a new generation is hearing her.”

The music and the theme are really eery but there’s a sense of hope and desire behind it as well,” added music student Stella Webb. “I think it has allowed a lot of people to really connect to the song.”

The feature, which aired on the main evening news on 8 June, was filmed in UWL’s Blast Radio studios and really showcased the University’s industry-standard facilities at their best.
