Naomi Day, Megan Wojcik Ferrer, Rachel Prance Beresford (from left to right in the picture above) and Neve Elderfield (not pictured) work at Ashford and St Peter’s NHS Foundation Trust and West Middlesex University Hospital. They started as UWL’s first midwife degree apprentices in September 2020 and graduated at the end of last year.
UWL is one of the trailblazer universities for the midwife apprenticeship pathway. We celebrate Naomi, Megan, Rachel and Neve’s successful completion of the course and wish them every success as they take on their new roles as qualified midwives,”
explained Reina Fisher-van Werkhoven, Senior Lecturer in Midwifery and Course Leader for the Midwife degree apprenticeship at CNMH.
We are immensely proud of our first four midwife degree apprentice graduates, and the partner Trusts who supported their journey to become midwives. Congratulations to all on a wonderful achievement,”
said Andrea Aras-Payne, Head of Midwifery at UWL.
UWL’s Head of Degree Apprenticeships Janet Rowson commented,
I am very pleased to see four highly trained and qualified midwives complete this pilot apprenticeship, showing what a well-run and supported apprenticeship course can achieve.”
The degree apprenticeship has been developed in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Standards of Proficiency for Midwives to equip the next generation of midwives to deliver world-class, evidence-based care for women, babies and their families.
As a mark of its professional excellence, CNMH holds the prestigious Gold Award accreditation by UNICEF’s Baby Friendly Initiative.
The apprenticeship is offered at both UWL’s Brentford site in London and the Reading Campus in Berkshire.
