Five everyday ways to boost your mental health and wellness
The head of wellbeing, Michael Cobden, filmed his day to give us an insight into the small things he does to boost his mental health. Here are his top five tips to give you a bit of inspiration this winter.
1. Follow your natural sleep cycle
Waking up in the morning can be the hardest part of the day. Michael utilises sleep tracking apps to wake up in the lightest stage of his sleep cycle, making the task a lot easier and less disruptive.
2. Cold showers
Michael starts and finishes his showers with cold water for an energy boost. Cold showers have loads of proven benefits such as reducing stress levels, strengthening your immune system and heightening your alertness.
3. Practicing mindfulness
Taking time every day to meditate helps to refocus your mind and centre your emotions. Mindfulness techniques can support all aspects of your mental health.
4. Exercise
We know you’ve heard it before, but it really does work. Michael cycles to work along a scenic route to give himself a break from city life. He also goes on regular runs with friends to raise his heart rate whilst staying social.
5. Appreciating the little things
Finding joy in ordinary moments of your life can really change your outlook. It can take a bit of work but actively appreciating simple things such as drinking tea from your favourite mug can make a huge difference to your day. You’d be surprised how much the small things can positively impact your mental health.
