Previously a healthcare assistant, Samanthia began her apprenticeship in May 2021, attending UWL’s Berkshire Institute for Health in the heart of Reading two days a week while also working at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
The nursing associate role was introduced into the health and care workforce in England in 2019. Nursing associates bridge the gap between healthcare support workers and registered nurses to deliver hands-on, person-centred care as part of nursing teams.
The apprenticeship has equipped me with the necessary clinical skills and fostered my critical thinking and decision-making abilities,”
said Samanthia.
Through coursework and hands-on clinical experiences, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of patient care, disease management, and healthcare systems.
This has not only boosted my confidence but has also prepared me to deliver high-quality care to patients, making a difference to their lives.”
Laila Paulsen, Senior Lecturer and Quality Lead for Apprenticeships at CNMH, commented,
Samanthia had the clear aim from day one to successfully complete her training as a nursing associate. She worked extremely hard and is an inspiration to other people undertaking this apprenticeship. She is a real credit to the profession, and we are immensely proud of her.”
Abi Barnard, Practice Development Senior Staff Nurse in the Clinical Education and Practice Development Team at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, said,
It wasn’t a surprise when Samanthia won Most Inspiring Apprentice at our awards. She has shown tremendous strength throughout her apprenticeship; her dedication and resilience has been inspiring.
We are incredibly lucky to have Samanthia and we are so proud of what she has achieved. We look forward to seeing her continue her career journey as we stand in awe!”
