Hundreds of graduates, accompanied by their family and friends, received their degrees from UWL’s College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare, Institute for Policing Studies, School of Medicine and Biosciences, London College of Music, Drama Studio London and London School of Film, Media and Design. Graduands from many partner institutions from across the country also received degrees and celebrated their achievements.
Honorary Doctorates were also awarded to four inspirational recipients:
Simon Jones is CEO of Living Well International CIC, a London-based not-for-profit focusing on innovative mental health and wellbeing services for disadvantaged communities. A UWL alumnus, Simon was also a Senior Lecturer (Research), contributing to the Epic Project, developing national guidelines to prevent healthcare-associated infections, enhancing patient safety across the NHS.
Eamonn Sullivan MBE is the National Clinical Director for the New Hospital Program, the first major national infrastructure programme undertaken by the NHS. Prior to this, he spent eight years as Chief Nursing Officer/Executive Director in a variety of major acute and specialist trusts. During the pandemic, Eamonn was seconded as Chief Nurse for Nightingale London and later Chief Nurse for COVID Testing, England at NHS Test and Trace and was awarded an MBE for his services to healthcare during this period.
Laura Harling studied at Drama Studio London after an extensive career as a child actor in TV, film, and theatre. Inspired by her grandmother who was no longer able to see her perform in theatre productions, she established The Dot Collective charity, a theatre company that tours professional productions into residential care and hard to reach community spaces. In the 2023 New Year Honours List Laura received a British Empire Medal for her work.
Korda Marshall has signed some of the biggest names in rock and pop during his four decades in the music business. He has played in a band, scouted, signed artists, directed major label A&R departments, produced, executive produced and been a managing director of three major record labels. After starting his illustrious career at RCA in 1993, Korda has since worked at Atlantic Records, Warner Music Group, BMG, and Mushroom Records and launched record labels Infectious and Contagious.
Professor Anthony Woodman, Provost and Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UWL, shared his pride in the positive impact that the University’s real-world research and knowledge exchange is having in society. This includes the work of the Geller Institute of Ageing and Memory, which supports people living with dementia, the deployment of AI into medicine in areas such as cardiology and ophthalmology, tackling inequalities through the Ruskin Institute for Social Equity, and developing national guidelines around safeguarding legislation.
He praised those graduating for their hard work and commitment and encouraged them to stay in touch with the university via the alumni network.
The partnership that you make with UWL is forever and we cannot wait to see the remarkable things you go on and do. Good luck and congratulations.”
