Article body
Over the past year UWL has progressed with reporting and implementing a framework for Education for Sustainable Development, introduced SMART objectives for key areas of environmental sustainability including a Scope 1 and 2 carbon reduction target, publicly shared job advertising criteria and investments, plus many other initiatives.
Executive Director of Property and Environment Claire Willitts commented:
Placing third out of the 149 universities in the UK is an immense achievement which the whole of UWL should be proud of. It's a testament to the ongoing work of the University to decarbonise its estate, embed sustainability into the curriculum and integrate a social and environmental consciousness into our culture and operations.
We do not plan to stop here though. We have ambitious sustainability goals to improve our impact on people and planet and achieving these goals is going to take the work of all in the UWL community.
Over the next year we will be launching new initiatives and opportunities for staff and students to engage and contribute. We are looking forward to taking this next step on our sustainability journey.”
People & Planet’s University League is the only comprehensive and independent league table of UK universities ranked by environmental and ethical performance. It is compiled annually by the UK’s largest student campaigning network, People & Planet.
