UWL scoops two awards at ‘Oscars of Higher Education’
Introduction
The University of West London (UWL) is celebrating success after winning ‘Business School of the Year’ and ‘Outstanding Financial Performance’ at the prestigious (Times Higher Education) THE Awards - widely referred to as the 'Oscars of Higher Education'.
The Claude Littner Business School’s impressive work in reducing the ethnic minority student attainment gap and boosting its business partnerships leading to increased opportunities for both students and the community led to it being crowned ‘Business School of the Year’.
Through its ‘Fulfilment through Challenge’ programme, the School reduced its ethnic minority attainment gap to a historic low of 0.8 per cent.
The programme breaks down barriers to social mobility by raising student confidence and aspirations and creating a seamless transition from education to employment for students whose socio-economic backgrounds make them less likely to gain a footing on competitive career ladders.
Announcing UWL as winner for Outstanding Financial Performance of the Year category, judges praised a strong financial performance which enabled significant investment in UWL’s campus, new technologies and high quality facilities.

UWL was also shortlisted in a third category, Outstanding Widening participation Initiative of the Year in recognition of its work to help people in the local communities of Ealing and Brentford reconnect with education.
