UWL students lend a helping hand to charities and the local area during National Student Volunteering Week

Intro

The University of West London volunteers once again gave up their free time to do good deeds in the community, marking Student Volunteering Week, which took place last week, by offering even more support to charity partners and good causes to make a lasting impact.

The V Team (Volunteering Team) kick-started the week with a variety of stalls on campus. Stalls throughout the week included The Mulberry Centre, a charity offering support to anyone affected by a diagnosis of cancer, National Trust site Ham House and Garden, and City Year UK, an education charity dedicated to empowering young adults to support pupils furthest from opportunity to succeed in school.

The V Team got students together and continued activities with a morning of conservation gardening in Boston Manor on Tuesday, ensuring that green spaces in Brentford are safe and clean for people to enjoy before lending a hand to Hounslow FoodBox and sorting donations to be sent out to families in need.

They continued their activities on Wednesday giving a helping hand to the environment, clearing bramble, digging and planting with Ealing Rangers. Volunteers then spent Thursday afternoon litter picking with volunteering group LAGER Can helping to make Ealing cleaner and greener.

UWL student volunteers dedicate hours of free time each month to supporting good causes locally, in what Volunteer and Civic Engagement Manager, Mariana Vieira Da Rocha said was a way to continue the positive impact the University has in West London.

We are incredibly proud of all our volunteers and everything they have done this week to make a major difference in their community and make this a truly great place to live, work and study.

Our volunteering team dedicates so much time to people and causes in need all year round, and this is a great way to support that work as well as even more causes for 2023.”
