Associate Professor Raffaella Margherita Milani

Associate Professor Raffaella Margherita Milani is a Chartered Psychologist and Course Leader for Addiction Studies (undergraduate and postgraduate level).

She is a member of the British Psychological Society, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Trustee of Addiction Professionals and a member of the advisory board for the International Substance Use Professionals UK (ISSUP-UK).

Her main area of research has been the effects of ecstasy polydrug use on mental well-being. She also published in the areas of gender differences, binge drinking and sexual behaviour. In recent years her consultancy and research work has shifted towards the evaluation of applied interventions, in particular for individuals with co-existing addiction and mental health problems (“dual diagnosis”) and multiple needs. She is also researching in the area of inclusive practice and policy for marginalised groups.

She has extensive experience in curriculum and workforce development in the drug and alcohol sector and has been involved in the consultation for the development of NICE Guidelines on the topics of drug misuse and coexisting mental health and substance misuse problems.

Teaching

I am a chartered psychologist, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Trustee of Addiction Professionals. I have researched the effect of ecstasy polydrug use on mental wellbeing and also published in the areas of gender, binge drinking and sexual behaviour.
